Direct Oral Anti-coagulants
- Examples: apixaban , rivaroxaban
- MOA: antagonist against factor 10 or thrombin (factor 2)
- Admin: PO
- Pro: Fixed dosing, few interactions, rapid response
- Con: Little evidence in pregnancy and extreme weight (> 120 kg) safety
- Side effects: renal toxicity, bleeding (increased risk of GI bleeidng in cancer)
- CI: renal dysfunction, Pregancy, Mechanical valve, Rheumatic Mitral valve stenosis
- Antidote: (only for dabigatran) - Idarucizumab (Praxbind®)
