• line down middle of the femoral head and middle of the femoral shaft
• Normal = 130

Clinical Application

• NSA >= 130 = un-displaced (clinically)
  • “No major displacement on the FRACTURE site – low risk of periosteum interruption”
  • Low risk of AVN (10-30%)
• NSA < 130 = displaced (also see obvious disruption of the Shenton’s’ line)
  • Assume high risk of AVN - Avascular Necrosis (50 – 90%)
  • Smaller the angle (approaches 90 degree), higher the AVN risk
