- Often indicate LGIB - Lower GI Bleed, closer to rectum = more bright red, further from rectum = more dark or maroon
- Bright red blood is typically of an anal, rectal or distal sigmoid source, but may be due to a more proximal source if the bleeding is profound
- “BRBPR - bright red blood per rectum"
- In unstable patient, should consider UGIB - Upper GI Bleed
Questions:
- Drips into bowl
- Ask if it mixes with stool
- Red Flag symptom for CRC
