• Ask about the colour, frequency and amount of vomit as well as any related nausea
• Did the vomit contain
  • bright red blood (Hematemesis )
  • coffee-ground-coloured blood (coffee-ground emesis )?
  • → UGIB - Upper GI Bleed
• Is the vomiting related to eating and, if so, how soon after eating?
• Does vomiting relieve any abdominal pain that the patient has
  • → !Bowel Obstruction
• Are there any associated extra-intestinal symptoms?
  • → CNS causes of N/V - Nausea/vomitting
    • Headache

Complication

• Metabolic Alkalosis
  • Stomach produces extra HCl → Bicarbs as byproduct
• Hypovolemic hyponatremia
