    • Chemotherapy
    • Thiouracil / thioamide → !Agranulocytosis
  • Immune diseases:
    • HIV Infection
    • !Agranulocytosis

INITIAL ASSESSMENT & INVESTIGATIONS

1. History Taking

Obtain a detailed history that includes:

• Type and timing of chemotherapy administered
• Use of prophylactic antibiotics
• Steroid use
• Recent surgical procedures
• Known drug allergies
• Presence of indwelling IV catheters (e.g., PICC lines, Portacath)
• History of previous positive microbiology, especially:
  • Antibiotic-resistant organisms
  • Previous bacteraemia

2. Symptoms to Assess (Infection Focus)

• Respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, dyspnea)
