Immune Complex Mediated

Type Type III
Time frame (exogenous exposure) 1-3 weeks (drug/serum)
Immune Reactant Immune Complex (Ag-sAb) mediated
Antigen Soluble
Effector forDamage  Pathway Complement, phagocyte Immune complex bine to basement membrane of blood vessel  – Neutrophil attempt to phagocytose – degranulate – lysosomal enzyme + reactive O2 species – vasculitis – more DNA released (commonly @ where blood is being filtered)@ Kidney: glomerulonephritis @ Joint: arthritis
Examples o   Lupus (DNA and nucleoprotein) - C3, C4: track disease progression over timeo   Serum sickness (anti-venom antibodies)o   Urticarial vasculitis (not sure)
Note vs type II: o   Systemico   rapid consumption of complement (C3, C4)o   Tissue damage at places where blood is being filtered (where the immune complex is deposited, not made)
