Causes

• R !MCA Stroke

Tests

Observation

• Are they only paying attention to one side of the bed?
• Are they only eating food on one half of the plate?
• Are they bumping into objects or walls with one side of their body?

Sensory and Motor tests

• Sensory (R medial thalamus, Anterior Cingulate, Parietal lobe)

  • Confirm no sensory loss
  • Simultaneous bilateral input of:
  • Tactile
  • Visual (double stimulus in 1 visual field)
  • Auditory

• Motor (R lateral thalamus, BG - Striatum, DL frontal lobe)

  • Confirm no motor weakness
  • Ask Pt to raise both arms at the same time → neglect: one arm lower

Additional tests for sensory neglect (useful when have sensory deficit)

• Line bisection
• Line or letter cancellation
