• Related to infectious agent (HHV 6 & 7)

Pathogenesis

Presentation

Signs and Symptoms

• Onset: acute
• Itchy - slightly
• Lesion:

  • Salmon pink, Scaly (peripheral but inside the lesion), plaque

    

  • Distribution: Christmas tree pattern

    

    

    • Sparing face
    • Mostly on trunk and proximal extremities

  • Asymptomatic or mildly pruritic

Risk factors

Prognosis/Disease Course

• Differential

• vs. Fungal Infection (scaly at the edge)

  Tinea (Dermatophytes)

• Pityriasis versicolor: fungal infection

  Pityriasis versicolour (Malassezia)

Management

• Symptomatic management (pruritus) - does not alter disease course
  • Topical steroid
  • Cool compress
  • Emollient (moisturizer)
