Typical S/S

• Course: over a week
  • Cough ++, !SOB (Dyspnea) → Persistent Fever
• Appear very sick
  • Atypical (e.g. mycoplasma) can appear milder → “walking pneumonia”, diarrhea, URTI symptoms
• Acute/subacute
• Pleural effusion
• !Pleuritic Chest Pain
• !Hypoxemic/Type I RF
• Referred Abdominal Pain
  • Epigastric pain, LUQ Pain, RUQ pain

PE

• Bronchial breath sound
• Crackles (inspiration) → wet

Investigation

• Diagnostic: CXR - Chest X ray
  • Consolidation, Air Bronchogram Sign → Typical
  • Diffused finding can be found in atypical pneumonia
    • Mycoplasma Species
    • Influenza
• Viral: Nasal NO test
• Bacteria: Sputum Sample
• Sepsis: Blood Culture
