Pathogenesis

• High risk for Post-partum Complications individual (Postpartum Thyroiditis)
• Leaking of T3, T4 from the thyroid gland
• 2 types:
  • Painful
  • Painless
• Associated with
  • Viral illness
  • Autoimmune conditions

Consequences/Natural history

• 2 stages
  • Stage 1: Thyrotoxicosis ↑(hyperthyroidism)
  • Stage 2: Hypothyroidism ↓

Special Population

• In Older Adult > 65 (RF)
  • 0.3-3% of all older adults (common)
  • May have apathetic and sedated presentation
  • Weight loss and !AFib - Atrial Fibrillation
