Presentation:

• Abrupt onset
• • Season: Winter
• • more contagious than CAP: people around is sick as well
• +/- Headache, Fever, Myalgia, malaise
• Complication:
  • Viral pneumonia
    • X-ray: atypical presentation (diffused)
  • Infectious causes of Parkinson (Encephalitis)

Treatment

• Prevention: flu vaccine
• Amantadine (NMDAi) (Block M2 ion channel in influenza A)
• Neuraminidase Inhibitors : shorten symptom source (1-3 days), may reduce risk of complication
  • Indications:

    • < 48h of symptom onset

    • 48 h in very sick (or likely to be very sick) people
