Endometriosis is a chronic medical condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) grows outside the uterus. This ectopic endometrial tissue can attach to organs and structures in the pelvic cavity, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and peritoneum, and sometimes even beyond the pelvis.
