Effect:

• Opposing that of ADH
• Decrease the amount of water in the body (increase [Na])
  • Increased U/O - Urine output (0.5-1 cc/kg/h)
  • Decreased urine osmolarity

Conditions:

• Too much water in the body : Hyponatremia ↓ [Na] (<135)

CI:

• !Hypovolemia ↓
• Strong CYP 3A4 inhibitors

Side effects:

• Polyuria
• Xerostomia (Dry mouth)
• Hypernatremia ↑ Na (> 145)
