• Dis order of Sodium Regulation
• Loss of extracellular volume - ECFV contraction - loss of blood volume
  • Due to loss of Na (electrolyte)
• Lead to !Hypovolemia ↓
• Higher likelihood of !Shock

Symptoms

• Dry skin
• Dizziness, esp. when standing up

Signs

• Orthostatic hypotension
• JVP below sternal angle
• High RR Tachypnea (RR>20) , high HR ↑ Tachycardia (>150)

Lab values

Normal Na Sodium (135 - 145), unless EXTREME

contraction alkalosis → Hypokalemia - ↓K (<3.5)

Etiology: Total body Na loss

• Symptom sequela
  • N/V - Nausea/vomitting
  • Diarrhea
• Medication
  • Diuretics use (Promote sodium loss)
• Acute Bleed
