Signs and Symptoms

• Clinical presentation (HPI):
  • !SOB (Dyspnea), dry cough, exercise intolerance with relentless progression (exertion)
• Specific Presentations & history → see each diseases

Risk factors

• Variable exposures (occupation)
• Toxins (drugs, radiation, chemotherapy)
• True CTD → Must try to rule out!
• FHx of CTD or ILD
• Smoking (RF)

Physical Exam Findings

• Respiratory Exam Findings
  • Cyanosis
  • Accessory muscle use
  • Crackles (inspiration) (Fine)
  • Clubbing - Shamroth’s window
• Rheumatological exam
  • Signs and Symptoms

Investigation

Tests

• PFT - Pulmonary Function Tests

  • TLC (< 80%) confirms restrictive lung condition

• Tests for the specific aetiologies

  • Must be sure to rule out CTD: ‣

• CXR - Chest X ray → upper vs lower lobe

  

  • Reticulations
  • Nodularity
