Symptoms of Liver Diseases

• Jaundice
• Confusion
• Fatigue
• Pruritus of Abdomin
• Anorexia (loss of appetite)
• Abdominal distension
• UGIB - Upper GI Bleed
• Uncommon → Abdominal Pain
  • RUQ pain, Epigastric pain → Acute hepatitis leading to distention of liver capsule

Symptoms of Hepatic Encephalopathy

• HE - Hepatic Encephalopathy
  • Early: Asterixis, Personality change, Day-night reversal, Insomnia/Sleep disturbances
  • Late: Nystagmus, Lethargic (GCS 13–15), Drowsiness

Risk Factors

• Metabolic syndrome
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes Mellitus
• Alcohol (RF)
  • Quantify pattern and amount, CAGE questionnaire
• Medications (including herbal compounds, birth control pills, over-the-counter)
  • Amanita phalloides, the death cap mushroom, is one of many toxins that can cause fulminant liver failure
• FHx of Liver diseases
• Viral Hepatitis RF
  • IVDU
  • RBC transfusion (blood, blood product)
  • Travel Hx
  • STIs Hx
