• 80%-90% mortality rate
• If ruptured:
  • retroperitoneal > intraperitoneal in survival (tamponade)

Presentation

Ruptured Symptoms (triad) - APH

• Abdominal Pain (esp. Flank Pain) Back Pain - Acute, severe
• Tender pulsatile Abdominal Mass
  • Need to touch to examine tenderness
• Hypotension ↓(<90/60) (collapse, LOC)

RF (For AAA rupturing)

• Size > 5.5 cm (risk is 3 - 15%/yr, growing) - Indication for surgery

• ↑High BP

• Smoking (RF) - current

• COPD

• Female

• Positive FHx

• Saccular aneurysm

• Rapid Growth > 1 cm / yr - Indication for surgery

• Symptomatic - Indication for surgery

  • (abdominal/back pain, tender w/ palpation, distal embolism)

• True CTD (Genetic)
