• Staphylococcus Aureus (most common) (including MRSA)
• Neisseria gonorrhoeae (if DGI, STIs RF) in young, sexually active patients
• Gram-negatives in elderly/immunocompromised → Insidious onset
  • GBS in Children (RF) >>>
• Pseudomonas aeruginosa (in IVDU)
• Salmonella Spp. in SCD - Sickle Cell Disease (Crsis)
• C. acnes in shoulders/ Post-op Complications
• Rare
  • Lyme Disease
  • TB - Tuberculosis

Full Work-up

1. XR (effusion may be visible)
2. Bloodwork: CBC, ESR, CRP, blood cultures
3. Joint aspiration is mandatory:
   • Cell count
   • Differential
   • Gram stain + culture
   • Crystals
   • Glucose ±
