Vertigo can be described as an illusion of movement. This movement is classically ‘spinning’ (most typical of peripheral causes of vertigo).
However, central vertigo tends to be more subtle and the classical spinning character is often absent. For example, the patient may feel like he or she is rocking on a boat, or that the floor is moving up and down.
