• Dementia vs Depression vs Delirium
• Menopause can present with memory & language MCI

Full Definition

Dementia (also referred to as ‘Major Neurocognitive Disorder’ in the DSM V) is defined:

1. as an impairment in two or more cognitive domains (most commonly memory plus another domain, such as visuospatial function) → Cognitive Assessments Tools
   • memory
   • executive function
   • attention
   • language
   • visuospatial skills

That is significant enough to cause an impairment in the patient’s daily functioning (ADL, IADL)

• vs. MCI: does not affect functionality

Presentation

Predominant symptom (ID phenotype)

• Amnestic (memory + one other domain)

• Non-amnestic (2 domains)
