Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease

Old name: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Diagnostic Criteria

• Liver US shows Steatosis
• Co-existence of Metabolic syndrome

Complication

• MASH/NASH - Steatohepatitis → Cirrhosis → HCC - Liver Cancer

Management

• MASLD/NASLD is common, but MASH/NASH is uncommon

  • Refer HIGH RISK population for Liver Biopsy
  • The rest directly treat for MASH/NASH

• NASH Management:

  • Lifestyle changes (10% weight loss) (MAJOR)*
  • Monitor CVD - Atherosclerosis and Diabetes Mellitus complications
  • Maybe in the near future: Resmetirom
