First part of Radiculopathy Exams

Motor & Reflex

• Motor Exam
  • Myotome distribution
• Reflex
  • LMN signs

Optional tests:

• Sensory Exam
  • For confirmation of root level – when motor exam is abnormal
  • Test pinprick sensation: Dermatome distribution
• Ancillary testing:
  • Hip Exam – typical pain on flexion/internal rotation – when suggested by the history
  • Peripheral pulses – suspect vascular causes
  • Routine Abdominal Exam – when suggested by the history
