• Radio Active Iodine (RAI) uptake - a percentage

  • A small amount of radioactive iodine (usually Iodine-123)

    • Vs treatment: RAIT

  • CI:

    • Thyroid Cancer
    • Pregnancy and Lactation (Breast Feeding) women
    • Moderate-severe Proptosis
    • Interference (iodine exposure) in the last 4 wks
      • Iodine exposure through Iodine-containing Med
      • CT Contrast Toxicity

  • Used in Thyrotoxicosis ↑(hyperthyroidism) to distinguish causes (and thus treatment)

    • Increased uptake = over-stimulated thyroid
      • Grave’s Disease
      • Thyroid Toxic adenoma
      • Multinodular Goitre
    • Decreased uptake = leaky thyroid
      • Subacute Thyroiditis
      • Exogenous Iodine or Thyroxine problem
